Deep in the Mojave Desert, Amboy Crater is the remnant of an ancient volcano that last erupted around 10,000 years ago. Rising roughly 20 stories high, it’s surrounded by a vast lava field that spills across the stark, scarred landscape. Exploring the area can feel like stepping onto another planet. I created this piece to echo that feeling of surveying and scanning this alien terrain.
