Inspired by the geometric layouts and typography of old school party flyers from the dawn of Hip Hop, I designed and animated the complete graphics package for Questlove’s MasterClass on DJing and music curation. The creative process centered on translating the visual language of hip-hop’s formative years into a contemporary motion system, combining layered graphic elements, rhythmic animation, and dynamic layouts that echoed the energy of mixing and sampling. In addition to creating the opening titles and package, I designed a suite of animated graphics woven throughout the course to reinforce Questlove’s insights and to visualize the knowledge he drops in this class.
